In the past century, the amount of garbage that the world produces has grown exponentially until many communities are simply overwhelmed with piles of it everywhere. Some of the worst garbage are plastics and tires because they can take up to 1,000 years or more to degrade. There have been many different approaches to handling these long-term problems, but many, like burning the plastics, just add toxins and pollutants to the air and water. Now, however, there is a new process called pyrolysis that promises to be the solution to the problem.
How A Pyrolysis Tire Recycling Plant Works
To start with, the tires are placed on a conveyor belt that takes them into a shredding machine. The shredder does a good job of cutting the tires into small pieces so they can absorb the heat at the same rate. Then the shredded rubber goes on to the furnace where it is heated.
The heat needs to be about 500 F for the pyrolysis to begin, and there can’t be any outside air let into the chamber. This is because the rubber in the tires would immediately catch fire and burn, releasing toxic fumes into the air. By restricting the oxygen, the tires can’t burn but instead are reduced down to oil, carbon black, and methane gas.
Much of the oil will be released as a gas as well, but will quickly condense to a liquid when cooled. The gases will have to be collected and compressed in order to be sold to a natural gas distributor, after which they’re piped into homes and businesses for heat or power generation.
Some of the recycling tire pyrolysis plants for sale use the gases to generate the heat needed to operate while others use the oil instead. This makes the entire waste tyre pyrolysis process self-sustaining as long as it’s continually fed tires. The oils that result from the pyrolysis can be used as fuel oil in many industries, or it can be refined further into diesel for cars or home heating oil.
There Are Also Plastics To Oil Pyrolysis Plants Available
In many waste and refuse dumps run in the cities and counties there tends to be quite a bit of plastic waste as well. Plastics are difficult to recycle because only a few are actually able to be used and the rest must be thrown away, however, the sorting must be done mostly by hand making it an expensive process.
On the other hand, if all of the plastics are mixed together they can all be turned into oil, gas and carbon black similar to tires. The process is nearly the same to the plastic process but the temperature of the oven may be different to be more suited to plastics. There are even multiuse pyrolysis machines that can accept both tires and plastics at the same time.
